It began with a sister's promise. It ends with a cure.

In 1980, in Peoria, Illinois, Susan Goodman Komen, a beautiful mother of two, died of breast cancer at age 36. Before Susan died, her sister Nancy Goodman Brinker made a promise to Suzy that somehow she would make it better for other women diagnosed with the disease. Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is credited as the world's leading catalyst in the fight against breast cancer with more than 90,000 volunteers working through 125 Komen Affiliates in communities nationwide, as well as international Affiliates in Germany, Italy and Puerto Rico.
